Literature Text

That oh so ordinary day we first met. Purely by chance, an unknowing sideways glance.

What were you waiting for? As you lie still with a distant gaze. Thy question never asked nor answered, a bond evoked without words.

Perhaps you knew, without fear nor prejudice, my intentions. You became my closest companion in my hour of need. With a silent gesture and a blissful smile, you gave me your trust.

But time makes fools of us all, and I've grown ignorant, taking your very presence for granted. I see now the strength you've lost, yet you never complained nor wavered.

It's unfair to ask your forgiveness, all I can do is offer you my strength, as I did so many years ago.

So when you no longer have a leg to stand on, and no voice left to speak, I will wordlessly be there to carry you with me. Sharing fond memories, for as long as you wish.

And when you no longer have the will to go forward, we can stop and rest, even if you never recover your lost stamina.

I won't prolong the inevitable.

I'll only show you my smile and hold you near, and only after you're gone will I finally shed a tear.

Great poem. I like your line work and the way you conveyed the message here. It's very heartfelt.
